FAQs: what to expect from King Stump Removal
When you work with King Stump Removal, you’ll get prompt service, affordable rates and machinery that can access even the most difficult to reach spaces. Here we answer some of your most frequently asked questions.
How much does tree stump removal cost?
People are surprised that removing unsightly stumps from their gardens or yards is not as costly as they expected. King Stump Removal tree stump grinding prices start from as little as $50 and pensioner discounts are available.
Can you remove my stump today?
Many people who contact us need their jobs done fast! Sometimes a tradie such as a concreter or landscaper is on the job and doesn’t realise there is a stump just inches below the soil. The other common scenario is uncovering tree roots in the preparatory work for laying paving. In both cases, work usually stops until the stump or roots can be removed.
King Stump Removal has the team, equipment and the flexibility to respond quickly in these situations so the offending stump or roots can be removed the same day and work can remain on track.
For non-urgent jobs, our turnaround time is within two days but we are super flexible and same day service can usually be arranged if necessary.
Do you provide a quote for stump removal in advance?
Yes. Due to the nature of our work and access requirements, we like to quote jobs via a site inspection first. Of course, if your job is urgent, we can provide an estimate by phone and undertake the job without quoting.
For most jobs, we will come to your premises, assess site access and view the stump/s that need removing to help us determine which equipment will be required on the day. By conducting an inspection first, we can also check for any underground services, gas lines, water mains or phone lines that may impact the job.
Once we’ve completed the inspection, we will provide you with a written quote and timeframe for the job.
What are your hours?
We understand that people are often working in their yards on the weekends so offer a seven day a week service with no weekend surcharge.
We are flexible and can fit in with your availability so if we need to come and quote at 6pm after you have finished work, we will be there! Call us anytime between 7am and 8pm, seven days a week.
My backyard doesn’t have side access. Is that a problem?
Not at all! With many people now living in villas and units, not having side access is quite common.
We are highly skilled at manoeuvring our equipment through your home to the backyard. Sheets or tarps are laid on the floor and the machinery is carefully manoeuvred through your front door, down the hallway and out the back door. Our machines can get through a normal house door opening of up to 800mm wide and have rubber tyres which don’t damage flooring.
The stumps we want removed are in a garden bed / down stairs. Are you able to access these areas?
Definitely! Stump grinding machines are made to reach difficult to access places - they can walk up and down stairs, into garden beds, up or down slopes and easily access uneven ground.
What can I expect on the day?
First, we will prepare the site which may mean raking away any pebbles surrounding the stump or moving any surrounding items such as garden furniture or pots. Where tree roots have affected pavers, we will lift the pavers to ensure the roots are removed as part of the stump grinding process.
If your stump is too high for our equipment (over half a metre), we will run a chain saw through it first and remove the off-cut.
Then we will move our equipment into position and begin the job. The time taken to grind one stump depends on the size and location of the stump. As you might expect, the bigger the stump, the longer it takes. Small trees usually take around 20-30 minutes. Very large stumps can take half a day or more. Palms and yuccas can be removed quite quickly whereas gum trees take longer given the density of the timber. We also cut surface roots to prevent regrowth.
Once the grinding has been completed, we clean up the site before leaving. Ground-up stumps make great mulch which most people like to keep for their gardens. In this case, we spread it over the top of the space and even it out. However, we can remove the grindings if required.
Is tree stump grinding noisy or dusty?
The stump grinders we use are a little louder than a lawnmower. The grinding process can generate a small amount of saw dust, depending on the type of tree. If it is really dusty, we can wet it down with a hose. We usually recommend closing the windows nearest to where we are working and moving any vehicles out of the way.
