Tree stump removal: why grinding is better than poisoning
Some customers who contact us about removing a tree stump have already tried poisoning the stump in an attempt to prevent regrowth.
However, we discourage poisoning tree stumps for several reasons, the main reason being that you are still left with an ugly tree stump and potential trip hazard in your nice yard or garden.
Often, poisoning a stump is ineffective and regrowth will eventually shoot up. As it is difficult for the poison to reach the root ball, the roots can continue to grow beneath the surface which is hard to spot until damage occurs to other plants, pavers, driveways, buildings or even swimming pools. Even repeat applications of poison can fail to kill off the stump.
Poison is hazardous to our health and can contaminate the soil as well as nearby streams or ponds. We recommend avoiding poison and contacting us grind the stump with our specialised equipment. This will remove the stump permanently, with no regrowth and no continued root growth to be concerned about – without the need for toxic chemicals.
Once the timber shavings have settled and started to break down, the area can be used for replanting, paving or lawn.
